Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the most common questions about salary.

What is the difference between gross and net salary?

Gross salary is the amount in your contract. Social insurance (9.5%), health insurance (1.7%) and income tax are deducted from it. What remains is your net salary, which is paid into your account.

What is the net salary for 100,000 ALL gross?

With a gross salary of 100,000 ALL per month in your main job, the net salary is 79,700 ALL. The deductions are 9,500 ALL social insurance, 1,700 ALL health insurance and 9,100 ALL income tax. The employer also pays 16,700 ALL in contributions, so their total cost is 116,700 ALL.

What is the net minimum wage in 2026?

From 1 January 2026 the gross minimum wage is 50,000 ALL. 4,750 ALL social insurance and 850 ALL health insurance are deducted from it, and income tax is zero. The net minimum wage is 44,400 ALL.

Why does a gross salary just above 50,000 ALL give less net pay than 50,000 ALL?

Up to 50,000 ALL the tax deduction is 50,000 ALL, so the tax is zero. Above 50,000 ALL the deduction drops to 35,000 ALL and tax starts straight away. That is why a gross salary from 50,001 to about 52,570 ALL gives less net pay than 50,000 ALL. The same happens just above 60,000 ALL.

How is tax calculated if I have two jobs?

The monthly deduction applies only with the employer where you signed the personal status declaration, usually your main job. For a second job, tax is 13% of the whole gross salary (23% on the part above 170,000 ALL), and at the end of the year you must file an annual income tax return.

Are children and education expenses deductible?

Yes, but not from the monthly salary. For each dependent child under 18, 48,000 ALL per year is deducted, and when your annual income is below 1,200,000 ALL, up to 100,000 ALL of children’s education expenses can also be deducted. These are claimed only in the annual income tax return.

When do I have to file an annual income tax return?

When your annual income exceeds 1,200,000 ALL, or when you work for more than one employer. The deadline is 31 March of the following year.

How accurate is the result?

The calculation follows Law no. 29/2023 on income tax and the 2026 minimum and maximum wages. Figures may differ from your payslip by a few lek because of rounding. The result is a guide and does not replace an accountant’s calculation.
